In the Vets Divisions, Overton have withdrawn their B team from Division 2. It was agreed at last night's committee meeting that Whittington, who finished 2nd to bottom in division 1 last season, will drop down a division to take their place. This results in both divisions having 9 teams, with 1 bye in each division every week.
In effect, Whittington have taken over Overton B's div 2 fixtures, and Whittington's old division 1 fixtures now become byes.
The previous published fixtures for all other teams will remain the same.
Tue 25th FebFixtures for the Oswestry Midweek League and Oswestry Veterans League are now available for you all to see.
Regarding the early starts for the first 2 weeks and last 4 weeks of the season.
For venues without floodlights, weeks 1 and 2, 19 and 20, matches start at 6:30. Weeks 21 and 22, the start time is 6:15.
Not all clubs have the benefit of floodlights at their venues, it is not a requirement of clubs joining the league. With a 7pm start, there are only 16 weeks in the year, that allows for games to be played in a good naural light, This moves around by a few days every year, and by local weather conditions, but it is always 16 weeks maximum.
As a league, we play with 12 teams in a division, that's 22 weeks of fixtures. At greens where there are no floodlights, matches have to start earlier than 7pm.
We can't change the daylight hours available, so we do our best to create the fixtures with regard to travelling to venues without lights, especially the last 2 matches that have to start at 6:15. Despite this, it's not always possible to get the best result that suits every team.
A computer programme generates the fixtures by allocating letters to each team in each division. It is user freindly (when you get to understand how it works), and there are a number of ways of altering things to see if there is better look to the fixtures, though it doesn't cover everything. You have to balance things out and try to be fair to all teams.
If clubs/teams feel that certain fixtures will cause problems, for what ever reasons, there is an opportunity to change that fixture. Captains need to discuss these issues with each other, if you can come to an amicable agreement, the fixtures can be reversed or even rescheduled to an earlier date. All you need to do is OK the change with the fixture secretary.
What ever you do, don't leave it until the last moment. There are 6 weeks before the season starts and 5 months before the earlier starts at the end of the season begin.
