Wed 18th Sep

Finals Day today and if you'll excuse my obsession with the weather - it stayed dry! In the afternoon the sun actually came out.

We started with the semi final matches in the Colin Paxton Doubles. These took until 12:30 by which time most people were a tad hungry so we suspended our programme for lunch. Lunch was a buffet with food provided by attendees and we had a good spread.

Hunger sated, we moved on to the finals for the Ann Guinney Ladies Singles competition and the Dick Allen mens singles competiton. These were both well fought contests with Della Jones (Malpas Farmers) eventually triumphing over Ann Leonard (Malpas Sports) in the Ladies and Ian Williams (Gate Hangs High) over Dick Franks (Farndon) in the mens. Full competition results are now available under the appropriate button.

Next came the grand final of the Colin Paxton doubles with Bryn Jones & Ian Williams (both from Gate Hangs High) winning over Ann Leonard (Malpas Sports) & Ted Faulkner (Hanmer).

We rounded the afternoon off with prize giving.

I'd like to express my thanks to all the bowlers and their supporters who help to make the day special. Also thanks to everyone at Malpas Farmers who made us so welcome and worked so hard in the kitchen.

That concludes our 2024 season. Check back every now and then in case there is news over the winter. We have a Committee meeting scheduled for 23rd October and the AGM will be sometime in March 2025 before the new season starts.

Have a good winter!

Wed 11th Sep

The Anne Guinney ladies singles competition and the Dick Allen mens singles competition were played today to the finals stage.

The weather was not kind to us again and players had to contend with rain and hail. Finals will be played next week along with the Colin Paxton semis and final. Followed by Prize giving.

Wed 21st Aug

Can all captains with unlisted players please make sure their players are all registered as soon as possible and certainly by the end of the doubles portion of the season.

Wed 17th Jul

The second qualifier for the Colin Paxton Competition took place today at the Malpas Farmers Club. I am very happy to report that the weather gods smiled on us today and we had a beautiful day for the competition.

34 members of the league turned up to participate, giving us 17 pairs. The successful qualifiers, going through to Finals Day were Della Jones and her partner Glyn Dobson and Ann Leonard and her partner Ted Faulkner. Finals Day will be on Wed 18th September (not 17th as I told some people today),  again at Malpas Farmers. Full results for today will appear under competition results later today.

Wed 22nd May

16 hardy souls braved the rain and an absolutely dreadful weather forecast to turn up at Farndon full of optimism for the Colin Paxton 1 competition. Their optimism was not misplaced. The green was in wondeful condition and was running beautifully. So inspite of getting a bit wet, matches were able to go ahead.

Matches were played as far as the last 2 pairs. This match is now carried forward to Finals Day when it becomes a sem-final in the overall Colin Paxton Competition. The second semi-final will come from the Paxton 2 competition which is due to be played on 17th July. Remember unusually, if you didn't get through today, you can enter and try again in the Paxton 2.

Today's lucky qualifiers were: Dot Charlesworth and her partner Dick Franks and Bryn Jones and his partner Ian Williams.

Thanks to Farndon for hosting, to Chris Nevitt for organising things at her end and to the ladies who made cakes and scones.

Fri 3rd May

We are sorry to report that Malpas BC&I have decided to withdraw their B team from Division 3. All of their fixtures have been converted into a bye. We are sorry to see them go and hope to be able to welcome them back sometime in the future.

Sat 13th Apr

A few people are already looking ahead to the doubles part of the season and have been asking about fixtures. We have therefore asked the computer to do its thing and the doubles fixtures have now been produced. There will be no need for morning matches during the doubles part of the season as Garden Village B and Garden Village C are going to share the green for their home matches with each match having 2 jacks on the green simultaneously. Matches will start at 2pm and the away team will have the jack as normal.
