Fri 22nd Mar

2024 Murphy Cup Draw is now live in the competition results link. Team handicaps will be based on individual player handicaps who play in the game. Each player will receive a handicap based on their 2023 league results which are then put into the matrix that Mid Cheshire and Norley leagues have used to generate a players handicap. This is a fairer handicap system which reflects the players who actually play in the fixture and not a set team handicap based on the teams registered players. The team handicap will be all the players handicaps who play in the fixture added together.

Sat 2nd Mar

There is now a Facebook group for the Runcorn and District Bowling Association. The group name is "Runcorn and District Bowling Forum 2024". There will be league and cup updates and general bowls news on it.

Sat 2nd Mar

2024 Champion of Champions Invitational Handicap Competition. Qualifying Dates Saturday 13th April and Finals Day Saturday 20th April.

The venue for this year’s competition is Subscription BC. Only two clubs replied to say they were interested in hosting the competition, Owley Wood last year’s hosts were the other club. Based on Owley Wood hosting it last year, Subscription have been chosen to host the competition for this season.

I will be sending the secretaries of each club an email asking them to confirm the availability of their invited player from their club/teams. The competition format and rules are available on the Runcorn Constitution page under "Competition Rules".

The format has been amended to encourage participation of players from all the clubs/teams in the association. This year’s competition is seeded for the qualifying round only. I have also listened to comments at last year’s competition from the players who played. The day was very long and players were at times waiting for long periods between games. To address this, we have moved it form a one-day competition to a two-day format. Also there will be staggered starting times for the two seeded groups. To qualify for the last eight there is only a requirement to play two games to get through. The finals day will be played from quarter finals to the eventual winner, three games maximum.

Hopefully, by listening to and acting on players comments, also by introducing a seeding format which will see four players from outside the top division playing on the final’s day, we will have a successful and most importantly an enjoyable event to start the season off in style.

Further details of starting times and the players in the competition will be posted here once I have had confirmation of the players availability from the club secretaries.
