1. The League shall be known as The Lancaster & District Veterans Bowling League. 
  2. All league and cup matches will be played according to the Laws of the Game as laid down by the British Crown Green Bowling Association (BCGBA).  The only exception being that visible scoreboards are used in matches.
  3. The organisation and running of the league is the responsibility of the League Committee.  This comprises four officers - Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Fixture's Secretary - plus up to five committee members, all of whom are elected or re-elected at the League's AGM.  If a vacancy occurs the committee can co-opt a suitable person to fill the position.
  4. To be eligible for the League a player must be 60 years of age or over.
  5. All players must be fully paid up members of their clubs and registered with the BCGBA.
  6. The names of its players must be entered on a team's online club page before the start of the season's fixtures.  Other players may be added during the season but this must be done before they play a match.  Games played with unlisted players will be forfeited.
  7. A player can play for one team only per season.
  8. Matches to be played on Thursday afternoons commencing at 2.00pm where possible.
  9. Home team practice at 1.30pm and Away team at 1.45pm
  10. A team will consist of eight players.
  11. Each match is made up of two doubles and four singles games.  Captains to nominate two pairs and four singles, their names to be placed face down for pairing with their opponents.  It is usual practice to play the two doubles and one singles first.
  12. If a team does not have eight players it will forfeit any singles games it is unable to play.  A match cannot take place if one team has fewer than six players.
  13. One point is awarded for each game won.
  14. Score sheets must be completed with all names.  It is the responsibility of the Home captain to ensure this is done and countersigned by the Away captain at the end of the match.  The result should be entered on the Bowls Results website by the Home captain and subsequently checked by the Away captain.  If any disputes arise the Fixture Secretary should be notified.
  15. If a fixture is unable to be fulfilled on the set date it should be re-arranged as soon as possible after the cancellation.  It can be played:- a) If knocked out of the Cup, on a date when the next round of the cup is played (up to and including the date of the semi-final) or:-

           b)  On a date (or time) other than a Thursday afternoon convenient to both teams.

           NB:  The Fixture Secretary should be notified of the date when a match has been re-arranged.

   16.   If a match in progress has to be abandoned due to adverse weather conditions or serious illness it should be completed by the same players on a date agreed by both captains.  Only unfinished and outstanding games need to be played.  The home captain should inform the Fixture Secretary when the match has been completed and the score recorded.

   17.   The winners and runners-up of all divisions bar the first are promoted.  The bottom two teams in all divisions bar the lowest are relegated.  In the event of a tie on points, which equals the number of games won, the number of actual overall matches won will be the deciding factor.  If these are equal, how the teams performed against each other will be taken into account.  If these are the same then a play off on a neutral green shall take place. 

   18.  After the end of the season and before the beginning of the next season an Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the League shall be held for the purpose of electing officers/committee members for the coming year and a discussion of league matters.  This normally takes place on the last Friday of January.  It is expected that a representative from each club will attend.  Any proposals for the meeting or nominations for the League Committee must be submitted in writing to the Secretary 14 days before the date of the AGM.

   19.  At The AGM:-

   20.  An agenda of business will be published prior to the AGM.

   21. The League Secretary must call an Extraordinary General Meeting or a meeting of the Executive Committee, at any time, and at the earliest opportunity, on receipt of an official written and signed request from not less than five member clubs or by instruction from the AGM.  The full powers of an AGM shall be extended to any such meeting.
